agora- a central spot in ancient Greece city-states. meaning a "gathering place or assembly". The agora was the center of athletic, artistic, spiritual and political life of the city.

arete- it means excellence of any kind or moral value. In its earliest appearance in Greek, this notion's excellence was bound up with the notion of the fulfillment of purpose or function: living up to your full potential.

polis- means city in Greek. Polis is normally used to indicate Greek city-states, like Athens and its contemporaries. It was the ideal place to live (central urban).
Philosopher- someone who studies how the mind works

508 B.C.- in this year, democracy began in Athens. Cleisthenes granted male citizens the chance to vote in order to see how city-states should be run.

Socrates- a classical Greek philosopher credited as one of the founders of Western Philosophy along with Aristotle and Plato. Thought that virtue was based on knowledge. Said that "The unexamined life is not worth living"

The death of Socrates- condemned to death or exile by the Athenian government for the corruption of youth and introducing strange gods. Socrates rejected exile and accepted death from hemlock. 500 jurors were there to decide his fate. During his trial he compared Athens to a horse and himself to a horsefly. A man who stood behind his beliefs and died for them.

The Socratic Method- is a form of inquiry and discussion between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to illuminate ideas.

what the ancient Greeks meant if they called you an idiot-
Idiot or Idiots in Ancient Greek was used to mean a private person or someone not interested in politics. Because of the word’s negative connotations now a days, ‘idiot’ slowly molded into the terminology used today.
