Syria

• Type of government : Republic under an authoritarian regime
• Syrians suppress the opposition and lacks human right and freedom elections
• They are voiced by the government to say what they want
• Internal opposition is the state of emergency act
• Bashar al-Assad was born in Damascus on September 11th 1965
• His father was born into a poor family
• Syria has had republic under authoritarian regime sine 1941 (73 years)
• A republic under authoritarian means that the government basically has all the rights but adds the republic to make it look as if they have rights and freedom
• Ways to get rid of the president is assassination, the country being taken over by another, and revolutionary war
• Assad won 88.7% of the votes on the election day
• The supreme constitutional court put turnout at 73.42% of the people that could vote did
• Most of his votes came from threats that if they didn’t vote for him they would bomb them
• Assad's voting was rigged was counting wrong on purpose
• Bashar al-Assad is expected to be in office till at least until 2021

Germany

• Government is a federal republic
• Government has been around since October 3rd 1990
• After World War II, East and West Germany were separated by the Berlin wall but reunited as a whole country in 1990
• Germany has two leaders President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel
• Angela Merkel has been in office since 2000
• Joachim Gauck has been in office since 2012
• The Chancellor is more powerful than the President
• To replace the leaders the people of Germany can impeach Gauck
• To replace Angela Merkel the people can nominate a new chancellor
• The Bundestag can kick the chancellor out of office
• The Bundestag elects only the president and can be taken out of office by the Bundestag
• People who commit a political crime can not vote
• People that are 18 and over must live in Germany for 3 months of longer
• The Social Democratic party has the most people or is most powerful

United States

• The leader of the United States is President Barack Obama
• America has a constitution based federal republic, with a strong democratic tradition
• Obama will be in power till 2016
• He can not run for re-election after this term
• Each term is 4 years and you can have a maximum of 2 terms
• The first half- African American president
• Obama has been president for 5 years already
• The change in leadership can happen through re-election, overthrow Obama or impeachment
